Markham Woods MTB Trails Overview
Markham Woods MTB trails are a great spot for both beginners and intermediate riders. The trails are smooth and flowy, with green-level trails open daily and blue-level trails available on select days. The new skills park—developed in partnership with SORBA Orlando and Seminole County—gives riders a chance to practice technical moves with a variety of features. E-bike riders will also be happy to know that the trails are e-bike friendly, making it easier for more riders to get out and enjoy. Plus, the location is just a short hop from downtown Orlando and easily accessible from I-4, making it a prime spot for locals and visitors alike.
The main trail offers a shaded, scenic 2-mile loop that’s flat enough for beginners but lively enough to keep amateur riders on their toes with tight turns and quick terrain changes. Even though you’re close to the road at times, the dense woods give the feeling of being deep in the forest. Trailhead signs direct riders which way to travel depending on the day, helping keep traffic smooth and safe. Some visitors opt to ride opposite the flow with caution to better spot oncoming bikers.
Parking at the immediate trailhead is limited, but a larger lot with a bike wash station sits just a half-mile further down the road—and best of all, there’s no fee to ride. Markham Woods also connects into the broader Seminole Wekiva Trail system, letting riders stretch their legs with longer rides through sections like Lokobee Loop, Gatorback Alley, and Pine Needle Punch. Wood features and flow improvements have recently been added, and night rides light up the scene every Wednesday. With fast lines, good flow, and a welcoming riding community, Markham Woods is a hidden gem that’s well worth checking out.
Opened in April 2023, the Markham Woods Mountain Bike Skills Park is a dedicated area to help riders develop and refine their technical skills. The park has 15 features for easy and medium difficulty levels including:
Wooden Berms: Curved structures to practice cornering.
Elevated Single Rails: Narrow, raised paths to practice balance and control.
Rolling Bumps: Sequential mounds to simulate undulating terrain.
Rock Jumps: Natural stone features to practice lift and landing.
Teeter-Totter: A seesaw-like obstacle to test balance and timing.
Bridges and Balance Beams: Structures to enhance stability and focus.
The skills park is free and open from sunrise to sunset. Helmets required for all riders. Additional amenities at the trailhead include a bike rack storage system, upgraded bike wash station, new picnic benches and Florida-Friendly Landscaping .
The primary trailhead has ample parking, restrooms, a bike wash station, and a skills course is located at 8515 Markham Road, Lake Mary, FL 32746. This trailhead serves both the Markham Woods and Seminole Wekiva Trail systems.
If the main lot is full, you might consider parking at Jones Trailhead, located at Markham Woods Road at Long Pond Road, Longwood, FL: 2993 Markham Woods Rd, Longwood, FL 32779 This trailhead offers parking and a water fountain.
Please note that parking directly at the trailhead is limited, and some visitors have opted to park at nearby locations, such as the school across the street, especially during weekends.
For the most accurate and up-to-date information on parking and trail access, it’s recommended to consult the official Seminole County Parks and Recreation website or contact them directly.
