Grapefruit Mountain Bike Trails: Florida’s Freeride Playground

Nestled in the scrubby backwoods of Palm Bay, Florida, Grapefruit Mountain Bike Trails is a must-ride for freeride fanatics, BMX bombers, and advanced MTB riders looking to send it. This is not your typical Florida singletrack—this is two and a half miles of tightly packed chaos, loaded with drops, tabletops, gaps, canals, steep rolls, and technical lines that will push your bike-handling skills to the limit.

Built by locals and lovingly maintained by the Brevard Mountain Bike Association (BMBA), this trail system blends old-school gnar with bike-park creativity. Expect tight radius turns, chunky features, and flowy stretches between heart-pounding sections. It’s like someone packed a mountain into a Florida scrub lot—and every inch of it is meant to be ridden hard.

What to Expect at Grapefruit Trails

Spanning a 2.5-mile network, the trails cater to a range of riders, but the technical terrain clearly favors the experienced. The whole system is peppered with obstacles—jumps, dips, step-ups, tabletops, canal gaps—with well-marked signs that keep navigation simple even when the riding isn’t. It’s a short network, but every line packs a punch.

Parking is limited, but access is easy thanks to a connector trail along the south side of the canal, which routes under Babcock Street and links directly into the Malabar Scrub Sanctuary Trails. That means two distinct trail systems in one ride—and zero traffic stress.

This trail system is tight, rugged, and not for the faint of heart. Beginners might find the features intimidating, but for intermediate and advanced riders ready to take on freeride terrain, Grapefruit is Florida’s little slice of send-it heaven.

Notable Trails at Grapefruit MTB Trails

  • 50 Shades of Gnar – A top pick for advanced riders, loaded with tight turns, drops, and sketchy switchbacks that’ll push your skills to the edge.
  • Sidewinder – Fast and twisty with plenty of flow. This one keeps the stoke high and your brakes warm.
  • The Gauntlet – It’s exactly what it sounds like—technical rock features, tricky lines, and precision riding from start to finish.
  • The Bowl – A dirt jump haven near the park’s hub. Ideal for BMX riders and MTB huckers who live for air time and clean landings.
  • Connector to Malabar Scrub – A mellow, flat trail along the canal that bridges two trail systems. It’s your shortcut to a full day of dirt.
