Planning Your Mountain Biking Trip in Florida

Planning a mountain biking trip in Florida can be an exciting and rewarding experience. With its diverse landscapes, numerous trails, and vibrant mountain biking community, Florida has something to offer every type of rider. Here are some tips to help you plan your trip:

When to Visit

Florida’s mild winters and warm summers make it an ideal destination for mountain biking year-round. However, the best time to visit depends on your personal preference. If you prefer cooler temperatures, winter (December to February) is the best time to visit. If you prefer warmer temperatures, spring (March to May) and fall (September to November) are ideal.

Many trails are shaded, and the summer months offer a unique opportunity to ride in the early morning or late evening when the temperatures are cooler.

As a native Floridian I would highly recommend planning a trip before June or after September. That said, Many trails are shaded, and the summer months offer a unique opportunity to ride – the best times in the summer months are early morning to 10 am. Florida has a uniquely humid summer that can be brutal in the summer. High humidity makes it harder for your body to cool down because sweat, which normally evaporates and takes heat away from your skin, cannot evaporate efficiently in humid air.

Where to Stay

Florida has a wide range of accommodations to suit every budget and preference. From luxury resorts to budget-friendly hotels and camping sites, there’s something for everyone.

If you’re planning to ride in the Santos Trailhead area, consider staying in Ocala or nearby Belleview. Both towns offer a range of accommodations, including hotels, motels, and camping sites right at the trailhead.

If you’re planning to ride in the Alafia River State Park area, consider staying in Tampa or Riverview. Both towns offer a range of accommodations, including hotels, motels, and camping sites right at the Alafia trailhead .

Markham Park’s campsite provides tent sites and 60-foot RV pull-throughs! There are cemented pads, showers, WiFi, grills, water, and 50-amp power hookups.

Remember to book your accommodations in advance, especially during peak season (December to April).
