LAKELAND MOUNTAIN BIKING
The mountain bike trails at Loyce Harpe Park Mountain Bike Trails (formerly known as Carter Road) are specifically designed to accommodate riders of all skill levels like other popular Florida mountain bike trails such as Alafia River State Park and Balm Boyette Park which are situated in areas once used for phosphate mining activities and have rugged terrains that provide an exciting experience for riders from beginners to advanced and expert levels, with advanced trails offering multiple challenging routes branching off the main path to cater to the thrill seeking riders. The rugged trails in these parts wind through mining debris with steep paths and sharp twists for an adventurous ride. The biking group, in the area keeps enhancing the trails with berms. Jumps to amp up the thrill factor even more.
If you prefer a ride along the trail system in Floridas picturesque forests with tranquil water features from the old mines site left behind for your enjoyment – fear not! The park also offers a fun pump track near the trail entrance and various wooden structures, along the trails to add some excitement to your journey.
At the moment the park has 13 miles of narrow mountain biking paths where you can challenge yourself or simply savor a leisurely ride in a picturesque setting.
On Wednesdays, all of the single tracks go in reverse order, known affectionately as “Wacky Wednesday”. Take note that this does NOT apply to their single double-black diamond trail called “Your Mom”. No, we’re not making a slight at you… that’s really what it’s called!
Loyce E Harpe Park offers recreational options such as softball fields and baseball fields for the South Lakeland Babe Ruth League along with soccer fields and hiking trails to enjoy outdoor activities in the parks natural surroundings. Additionally present are amenities like a disc golf course and designated fishing areas for visitors to engage in pursuits. The park also features DiOGi Dog Park for owners to take their furry companions and organizes diverse special events throughout the year through Polk County Leisure Services. Notable events, like the Haunted Halloween Hayride and Happening in October draw crowds annually.
Lastly, make sure to keep an eye out for the infamous 14-foot gator called “Big Momma”…
